Our exciting week abroad started when we the students of the 3AHEL and the 4AHEL met up with our teachers Ms Frank-Schweighofer and Ms. Tarmann at Schwechat International Airport on the morning of Saturday, March 11th, 2017.
Our flight took off from Schwechat at 11 a.m., and we landed two hours later in London, Heathrow. A bus picked us up from the airport and drove us to our language school, the Centre of English Studies (CES).
At the school, we met our host families, who then took us back to their homes where we would be staying for the entire week. Staying with our host families gave us the perfect opportunity to experience English culture first-hand!
Our daily schedule involved having lessons at the CES from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Friday, and afterwards going sightseeing with our teachers. Although we had free time to explore the city after these activities, we all had a curfew of 10 p.m.
Some of our favourite moments from the trip were made during our sightseeing. We visited nearly every major sight in London, such as the Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Buckingham Palace, the Tate Modern, and the Science Museum. One of the highlights from the sightseeing was when we went to the top of the Shard, a 300-meter skyscraper shaped like the sharpened edge of a pencil, where we could see a breathtaking view overlooking London.
All in all, the language week was a phenomenal experience. We had a wonderful time not only immersing ourselves in British culture but also improving our English.
